Tip: Use “Fit to page” and disable headers/footers in print settings.
Goal: Keep indoor air cleaner, reduce exposure, and know when to leave.
BEFORE SMOKE ARRIVES (OR AS SOON AS YOU HEAR IT’S COMING)
- Check local air quality (AQI) and forecasts
- Close windows and doors
- Seal obvious gaps (door draft, window leaks)
- Set up a “clean room” (one room you keep as clean as possible)
INDOOR AIR SETUP
- Run an air purifier if you have one (in the clean room)
- If you have HVAC, use “recirculate” (not bringing outside air in)
- Avoid creating indoor smoke (no candles/incense; limit frying)
- Vacuum only if it has a HEPA filter (otherwise it can stir particles)
PERSONAL PROTECTION
- Keep masks available (better filtration is best in smoke)
- Limit outdoor time and exertion
- Keep hydration up (dry air + irritation)
IF YOU MUST GO OUTSIDE
- Wear your best mask
- Keep trips short
- Return to the clean room and wash hands/face
WHEN TO CONSIDER LEAVING
- Indoor air is still irritating after your best efforts
- Symptoms worsen (breathing trouble, chest tightness, severe coughing)
- Evacuation notices or rapidly worsening conditions
QUICK SUPPLIES LIST
- Masks
- Basic sealing supplies (tape, draft blocker, etc.)
- Water + simple food
- Battery bank + phone charger
Principle: Your best move is reducing exposure and keeping one “cleaner” space.
